Prosthodontics Overview
Prosthodontics is the dental specialty pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth and/or maxillofacial tissues using biocompatible substitutes. “The principal aim of prosthetic dentistry is the perpetual preservation of what remains of the patient’s masticatory apparatus rather than the meticulous restoration of that what is missing” This famous quote of M M De Van symbolizes the importance of the branch of prosthetic dentistry in preserving the patients teeth and its associated structures. This ultimately influences the maintenance of good orofacial health that ultimately contributes towards maintenance of general health of the patient.
